Diary of a Teenage Girl
Sold Out
by Melody Carlson
Book review by Jessica S., age 13.
Diary of a Teenage Girl: Sold Out is written by Central Oregon author Melody Carlson. Sold Out is published by Multnomah Books, A division of Random House, Inc., and in association with the literary agency of Sara A. Fortenberry. The book has a copyright 2003 by Melody Carlson.
Sold Out is teenager Chloe Miller’s second diary. Her second diary starts exactly six months to the day of when she became a Christian. In these next six months she goes through many struggles. The band Redemption starts arguing over lyrics, and Laura’s pastor is banning Laura from playing in the band because he thinks Chloe believes in false doctrine. They don’t want to end the band but there’s nothing they can do. Will the band continue?
Chloe, Laura, and Allie decide to go shopping with newfound friend Marissa, forgiving her of previous shopliftings. But when it’s time to leave a security guard asks them to come with him so he can search their bags. The girls know it wasn’t them but when it’s all said and done everyone has unpaid merchandise in their bags except for Marissa. After Marissa promised not to steal again would she really set up Chloe, Laura, and Allie like this? Will the truth be found or is the band going to be charged with shoplifting?
After a couple concerts, Redemption gets invited to Nashville by a talent scout! After trying out in the recording studio, they are offered a contract by Omega. They would be able to tour across country, have concerts, and open for famous Christian bands. But will the parents allow it? Now, everyone at school is acting different towards them. How do they know who is real and who is fake?
I really enjoyed reading, Sold Out. I recommend the Diary of a Teenage Girl Series to every teenager and young adult.
