  • Proof of your current physical address (e.g., bill, lease agreement, personal checks, pay stubs, etc.) if the physical address (not PO Box) on your ID is incorrect/out-of-date.

How long does it take to get a library card?

Our staff can help you enroll in the library system, or you can register online at jcld.org. The process takes about 3 minutes.

How much does a library card cost?

For Jefferson County residents, library cards are free of charge.

For non-residents and some residents who live in Crooked River Ranch, we have three options:

        $45.00 for 6 months for the entire household

        $85.00 for 1 year for the entire household

Do you live outside of the library's taxing district?

Parts of Crooked River Ranch and Terrebonne are included in the Jefferson County Library District. Please check the tax code map to determine if you live outside the taxing district (purple area). Your account will be activated upon payment;

Mail your check (preferred) or call in with credit card information (541)-475-3351 to 241 SE 7th Street, Madras, Oregon, 97741. Remember to renew your library card when your current card expires.

Does my library card expire?

Fine-free cards that go unused for 12 months or more are deactivated, and a new Library account will be required.

For exceptions, please find details under "How much does a library card cost?".

What if I'm 17 years old or younger?

There is no minimum age limit to get a library card. However, your guardian(s) must be present at the library to apply for a card or submit the application online. Your guardian(s) will need to bring or upload a picture of their library card and current photo ID with proof of physical address.

What if I just moved here and don't have proof of my current address yet?

Call the library at 541-475-3351 to find out what you can do.

What if I'm homebound and can't be present at the library?

You can apply online or call the library at (541)-475-3351 for an exception if you don't have access to a computer.
