How Do I Get a Library Card?

 What do I need to get a library card?

  • Current photo ID
  • Proof of your current physical address (e.g. Bill, lease agreement, personal checks, pay stubs, etc. Personal mail and forwarded mail is not acceptable)​

How long does it take to get a library card?

Our staff can help you enroll in the library system. The process takes about 3 minutes.

How much does a library card cost?

For Jefferson County residents, library cards are free of charge.

For non-residents and some residents who live in Crooked River Ranch, we have 3 options:

                $10.00 (1 month, check-out limit 6 at a time) for the entire household

                $45.00 (6 months, check-out limit 6 at a time) for the entire household

                $85.00 (1 year, check-out limit 50 at a time) for the entire household

Do you live outside of the Library's taxing district?

Parts of Crooked River Ranch and Terrebonne are included in the Jefferson County Library District. Please check the tax code map to determine if you are living outside of the taxing district (purple area). Your account will be activated upon payment; 

Mail your check (preferred) or call in with credit information (541 475 3351) to 241 SE 7th Street, Madras Oregon, 97741. Remember to renew your library card when your current card expires.

Does my library card expire?

​Fine-free cards that go unused for 12 months or more are deactivated, and a new Library account will be required.

What if I'm 17 years old or under?

There is no minimum age limit to get a library card. However, your guardian(s)  must be present at the library to apply for a card. Your guardian(s) will need to present their library card or current photo ID with proof of physical address.​

What if I just moved here and don't have proof of my current address yet?

Can I apply for a library card online?

Yes, you can. Click HERE to fill out the application form. You will get a reply with instructions through email within 1-2 business days.
