Both the Jefferson County Library and the Jefferson County Library Endowment Foundation welcomes gifts from individuals, families, businesses and non-profit organizations who wish to demonstrate their love for books, the Library and our community.

There are several ways to make a lasting contribution to the Library and the donation are tax deductible.

General Donation:

The Endowment Foundation accepts financial donations from individuals, civic groups, and business in support of our rapidly growing library. The money these contributions goes toward funding library programming, equipment purchases, repair/remodeling, and savings for future library needs.

Gift Program

Through the Gifts Program, library materials are purchased for placement in the general collection for all patrons to use and enjoy. You can request children or adult books, videos, audio books, or CD's in the subject or genre of your choosing. We will affix a permanent bookplate to each library item acknowledging your donation and whom it's honoring.

Honor a Special Person or Event

Make a donation to celebrate a birthday or anniversary, recognize a graduate, or show appreciation for a retiree. It's a unique and special gift for your honoree and for the Library.  An acknowledgement of your gift can be sent to your honoree if you would like to provide us with their mailing address.

Memorial Donation

Create a lasting memorial to a friend or loved one by donating funds to purchase items in that person's memory. If you provide us with the current mailing addresses we will send cards to family or loved ones of the deceased to acknowledge your generous gift.

A gift that keeps giving

Donating a book in honor or in memory of someone is the gift that keeps giving. The library materials that are purchased with your donation will be well used and deeply appreciated by Library patrons for years to come. Your friend or loved one will be remembered throughout the community as the library materials are used.

Securities, Insurance, Bequests, and other gifts:

Securities:
You may own securities that have appreciated in value and which you might like to sell, but your increased value may be lost in capital gains taxes. You could make a gift of securities to the Foundation and avoid capital gains taxes.

Insurance:
You may designate the Jefferson County Library Endowment Foundation as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy.

Bequests:
You may leave money or property to the Jefferson County Library Endowment Foundation or you may leave your collection of books, videos, or other materials to the Jefferson County Library District in your Will or living Trust.

Charitable Remainder Trusts:
You may establish a trust to hold your assets and pay income during your lifetime and then give the Foundation the principal.

Other Gifts:
Gifts of furniture, paintings, statuary or real property may be made to the library after consultation and approval from the Library Director and the Jefferson County Library Board.


Used Books & Materials:

We can accept:

  • Fiction Hardcover - current or former best-sellers.
  • Nonfiction Hardcover - on current topics appealing to the general reader.
  • Paperbacks - best-seller fiction and nonfiction in mint condition.
  • Classics - paperback or hardcover in good condition.
  • Children's Books - hardcover or paperback in good condition.
  • Video cassettes and DVDs - purchased (not copied) videos with covers.
  • Audio Books - abridged or unabridged.
  • CDs - not scratched.
  • Small amount of current Magazines (to be given away free)
We can not accept:
  • Large amounts of Magazines.
  • Textbooks.
  • Reader's Digest Condensed Books.
  • Dated computer books.
  • Water damaged, dirty, mildewed, stained, or smelly books.
  • Books with missing covers or pages.
  • Promotional videos or pamphlets.
  • Encyclopedia sets.
The library does appreciate and accept donations of used books and library materials. However, because of space and time limitations we have to limit what items we will accept and when. Follow the guidelines above when determining whether you would like to donate your material. If you do decide you would like to donate please call ahead (475-3351) to discuss a drop off time. Not all donated items will be added to the Library's collection. If the Library does not use your materials, we may add them to our book sale items.
